Dreaming of Drowning

2019

tempera paint, thread, model magic, chalk, crazy glue

USC Chapel Gallery

In elementary school I had a dream where I was drowning but didn’t feel the agony or the pain of it as I was surrounded by my favorite things. For this installation piece, my goal was to recreate this type of experience. In this space, there were strands of thread that ran across the entire room – making it difficult and distracting to navigate around the room. Once you make it inside, however, the thread is now running completely over your head. Now, you have the time and space in your mind to see the delicate and intentional details. Without even realizing it, you forget about the hassle and everything is suddenly completely still and serene.
